Vic,

This may be the best account of the 508 I have read; no, it IS the best account. I did stages 4 and 8, and for me, that was plenty hard. And I wouldn't exchange it for anything. I found out lots of things on those stages about myself.

The rabbit...you passed me on Sheephole and I saw that rabbit probably just after you. I had tears in my eyes. It was so sad. I too still that rabbit today.

I used the same rest room in Badwater as did my crew. I don't remember any backsplash but I was half out of it anyway.

The 20 miles into Twenty-Nine Palms were a slow hell. You described it beautifully.

And Death Valley...what can I say that you didn't? Your description made me remember things I hadn't thought of. When I had to either stop or keep going right off the edge of the road. When I couldn't drink and ride for fear of losing control. The speeding vans taking their DNF's away. The dark vans hunkering down on the side of the road. The going to sleep at 5:30 just like you and then waking up at 7 and walking (unlike you) until I felt I could ride again (I NEVER walk my bike...I didn't care...as my teammate Jay said: just keep moving forward.)

THANK YOU for taking the time to right this. I could say more but I have long ride to start! :-)
