We Got Married

Twice.

After we got engaged, the question naturally came up — what should we do with our wedding. I don’t think I was ever really a tomboy, but I don’t remember ever growing up dreaming about my wedding like what they say girls should do either. If all up to me, I would have been perfectly happy to climb up a peak, just the two of us, and shout upward that “We are husband and wife now!” Wait, according to law, I guess we needed to coax three witnesses into going up there with us, which would not have been hard to arrange considering we have so many friends unafraid of heights.

However, we both realized that weddings were more for the people around you who care about you and would probably want to celebrate the special moment with you. Let me give you a secret here (so it’s just between you and me). I think Erik had gotten to an age that his family and close friends started wondering about whether he would ever settle down, so they were really thrilled when they heard that some woman was willing to say yes. Well, except one friend of his, Nate. He said “Why?” when he heard the news. I didn’t take it as an offense — he didn’t know me yet. I thought Erik was lucky to have friends like Nate who was willing to pour some cold water to cool him down a little bit while he was overheated by the big decision. Later, Nate administered our California wedding.

So, a wedding was inevitable. Now came the logistics — where? Most of his family are in Washington State and its vicinity and most of our friends are in the San Francisco Bay Area. It would have caused great inconvenience to either party if they had to travel. Our solution was we would have two weddings: one up in Washington just with his folks and one in California for our friends.

We had our Washington wedding on September 3rd, 2006 (Labor day weekend ), and had our California wedding on August 25th, 2007. We would had liked for the latter to happen on the Labor day weekend as well, but because we chose our venue to be in Yosemite, we had to move the dates to avoid the holiday crowd.

Our Washington wedding took place in Erik’s folks’ backyard. It was a simple yet beautiful wedding. And it was then did I find out that Erik looked extremely handsome in tux. We had some nice photos from the Washington wedding on prints, but in a rush to share, I mailed our both copies to my family in China and have not gotten around to reprinting yet.

Our California wedding took place in Yosemite. I developed a web portal for our wedding invitation and arrangement. Following sub pages were a snapshot of that web portal.
