Our Thanks
August 28, 2007
Finally, it really happened. We had our wedding on August 25, 2007 in Yosemite Chapel. The groom was escorted to the wedding from climbing the Rostrum in time (thanks to Steve Curtis). The bride did not pass out at the ceremony. The groom did not drop the bride in front of everybody while doing that un-rehearsed dramatic, yet romantic, kiss. It seems that Mei still managed to get lost at the campground and stepped into some poison oaks, but hopefully she is the only one who got the itches. All in all, the wedding has been a great success. Whoo hoo!
First, we want to thank everyone who attended the wedding. You traveled long distances to come. Many of you probably were sleep deprived on this long trip. Quite a few of you paid high prices on airfare and rentals. But you came anyway. And did we mention that Uncle Bill and Aunt Dorie made their first trip to Yosemite after they had lived in the Bay Area for 42 years? We were so honored to have you there with us at that sacred moment of our lives. And on that note, we also want to thank everyone who could not make it but have sent their best wishes. We saved them all.
Second, we want to thank the wedding party. The officiant, the Almighty Nate Petz, did an excellent job. It was his first time doing this, but he did not even make a single mistake. (Nate, if you ever consider a career change, you might want to look into becoming a real minister or running for the US president.) The Best Man, Stephen Wilcox, managed to accidentally but miraculously pull a couple of carabiners out of his pocket when he was asked for the rings. The Matron of Honor, Jenny, made sure the bride did not enter the church empty handed — the bouquet that our 12 year old Katie caught was made of fresh flowers. And what a beautiful Navajo Prayer they read!
And last, but not the least, we want to thank everyone who helped out at the wedding. Debby, we can't thank you enough for staying up the night before until 1:30am helping Mei iron and fold the sixty bandannas, for folding the twenty five copies of programs, for providing your great input when Nate and Mei worked on the program line by line, and for staying on top of things such as paying for the music and the taco truck while we were chatting with our guests. Can I (Mei) be your gofer someday? The Brattons, you have been like family to us. We can always count on you for help. Erik, Patrick, and Nate together helped set up the campsite for the party. They made sure the keg stayed nice and cool in that heat. Barbara, it was not an easy task to set up five strange tents in the 105 degree heat. Thank you for being a great company and help to your brother when he went out there to secure the camp. Jan and Sawako, thanks for having offered to help in many things (e.g. Jan even offered to hire us a musician from the Bay Area!) and thanks for helping us break down camp on Sunday morning. Hua, thanks for picking up Mei's engagement ring on Friday on a short notice. Oh, and at 8am on the morning after we sent out our first invitations, Chris Bellizzi called to suggest the campground and the taco truck. Duuuuude, you absolutely rock, just like your little light green colored VW Beetle that gets 50 MPG on biodiesel and the little disco light that fascinated everyone at the camp!
We love y'all!
